TUITION:  Was $599!  Celebrate Spring and learn how to install solar panels for just $299

INSTRUCTOR:

Toll-free 877-271-1757

By bike & public transit:
If you're coming by bike, feel free to bring your bike inside for safe keeping.  We're about a 10-15 minute walk from MacArthur BART and AC Transit's #51 bus stops right out front.

By car:
Free parking all day can usually be found on the side streets off Broadway.  Free two-hour parking is pretty easy to find on our end of Broadway, but the $55 ticket hurts should you overstay your welcome!

Other suggestions:
We'll be doing a lot of hands-on work, so please wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  On 4 out of the 5 days, we'll spend time outside, so I'd recommend bringing a water bottle, sun block and a hat.

There are a number of places to eat within walking distance, but we have a fridge and a microwave if you want to pack a lunch.  We make lots of strong coffee and I guarantee none of it will be decaf.

Please call or email if you have any questions and I look forward to seeing you on the roof!

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE COMPONENTS:

PV101 Solar Installation

Length: 2 days, 16 hours
Outline:  A practical, hands-on introduction to residential solar electric systems (photovoltaics or PV). 70% hands-on, 30% lecture.  Discover the principles, learn the terminology and get hands-on with the hardware & tools. From the classroom to the rooftop in two fast-paced days.  We begin with basic electrical principles as applied to grid-tied solar, including instruction on the use of a digital multimeter.   You will learn to assemble, install, configure and troubleshoot racking systems, solar panels, DC disconnects, AC/DC inverters, main panels and more.  You will learn to install racking solutions for pitched roofs, flat roofs and ground mounts.  You’ll be introduced to real-world environmental factors of shade & temperature and how they can improve or undermine performance in your system.   In small group and individual exercises, we will cover grounding, safety, finding rafters, mounting stand-offs, sealing penetrations, protecting roof integrity, bending conduit, installing various racking systems, testing modules for voltage & current, and doing wiring diagrams.  The highlight of this course occurs at the end of Day 2, when you will work as part of a small team on a mock roof to build a working grid-tied solar system.  Plug in, turn on, make electricity from sunlight, baby.  If you are not smiling at the end of this class, you are clinically dead.
